Convert Records To CD

If you are thinking about buying software to record albums and tapes to CD, below is more information about the steps involved. It is a fairly simple process with the software we offer.

First, you will need to have a basic stereo setup consisting of a stereo amplifier, a cassette deck for recording your tapes, and a turntable for recording your albums.

You will also need a cable to connect your stereo components to your computer, which can be purchased from an electronics store (Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc.). I purchased one from Radio Shack for under five dollars. One end will have a red and white RCA connector for your stereo, and the other end will have a miniature jack, which plugs into your computer.

Cable Between Your Computer and Your Stereo

The instructions that come with the software show a lot of detail, and also has voice instructions which makes it easy to hook up your stereo equipment.

Record players have a low output level and usually need to go into the Phono In on a stereo amp and Line Out before going into the computer. The software will detect any imput and automatically adjust it for you.

Tapes are very easy to record, because all you do is hook the cassete deck to the computer with the RCA to 1/8" jack. You don't have to run it through your stereo

Hookup Your Record Or Cassette Player to Your Computer

Run the software and click "Hookup Wizard". It will guide you through a series of questions and show you photos and images to help you hook up your record or cassette player to your computer.

Get A Good Recording Level

The software will ask you if you want to run the "Recording Level Wizard". Click "Yes" to have the imput automatically adjusted or click "Level Wizard" for your own settings. Start the record album or tape, and you will hear it through your computer speakers. Once you are satisfied with the sound mix, click the "Start" button and follow the instructions.

Phono Connection

I have used this software quite a lot, and it does a great job. Sometimes, I prefer to record the albums on cassette tape first. Then I plug the cassette deck into the computer and start recording. There are no wires going to the stereo to worry about. My cassette deck is now a permanent fixture on my desk beside the printer and other hardware!
