Learn About Computers

Learning the Computer Have you just got your first computer? Are you not sure how to use a lot of the features. If so, this article is for you.

Many people are confused by all to the selections and menus. Don't let an electronic gadget frighten you. Start clicking! Click on anything that interests you and try to learn how it works. Almost all programs come with a help file if you need more information. If you try to open a file that is integral to your system, you will get a warning message, which will allow you to close it.

The things that you shouldn't tinker with, (such as the registry) can only be accessed by certain run commands. Your computer comes with a system restore, so that if you should mess something up, you can put it back the way it was. There are a lot of people who limit their learning, simply by not trying different things on their computer. The point is, don't limit your learning curve and don't be intimidated by your computer.

The Internet is rife with viruses, spyware, and other things that are bad for your computer, so it is very important that you have a firewall and anti-virus software. These usually come with your computer.

Your firewall will alert you if it does not recognize a program or if something on the internet tries to access your computer. Unfortunately, this will be trial and error on your part. For example, it may block a program that you recently installed. If it is a program that you trust, click okay on the firewall alert. Some firewalls require you to open it and add the program.

You should scan your computer regularly with your anti-virus. You can set it to scan automatically at a time you set. It is also important to keep it up-dated, which can also be set to download automatically.

New computers come with so much junk software on them, that there are programs designed to remove them when starting out. A lot of it is shareware (good for a trial period), which you will have to buy when the trial expires. Be aware that most of these programs are available for free on the internet. If you do an internet search, and add "free download" with it, you will probably get a ton of results. Be forewarned, some websites will say “free”, when it is another trial download.. The free part is the trial period. I find it very annoying to go through the trouble of downloading and installing a program, only to find it to be shareware. (Here at Computer Products Unlimited.com, our downloads are clearly marked as free, or a trial period).

Your computer can be very informative and entertaining. If you have a question about your computer, search it on the internet and you most likely will find the answer. It is less painful than asking a ten year old kid.
